Fireworks over the Walker!

cap-of-culture-opening, originally uploaded by urbancanvas08.

On 11th of Jan 2008 Liverpool celebrated the opening of its year as European Capital of Culture….and what a year it was!!

I took this photo at the opening event outside St.Georges Hall and as you can see it shows one of my personal highlights….fireworks over the Walker Art Gallery.

This is a great photo clearly showing in silhouette ‘The Spirit of Liverpool’ an allegorical statue carved by John Warrington Wood in the 1870’s. A sculpture that is today often overlooked but is as much a symbol of Liverpool as the Liverbirds. The statue is a replica of the original which was removed due to pollution damage in 1993.

I’m really pleased that this photo was chosen in 2008 to be published in LIVERPOOL– The Souvenir (An Amazing city through your eyes) ISBN 978-1-906802-09-7 which can be purchased at this link 🙂

Photo taken using a Canon 400D with a EF75-300 f/4-5.6 USM zoom lens.
