Well knock me down with a dyke builders hammer……over the weekend (21st to 22nd of August) we’ve only just gone and won one of the top prizes in The Colours of Valkenburg International Street Painting Competition 2010.
Part of the National Dutch Open Pavement Art Competition.
We won 1st Prize in the special tourism category representing 125 years of tourism in the Dutch region of Limburg.
The judges were particularly impressed by ambitions of scale (We produced the largest piece of art at the event) Public participation and technical ability.
The competition attracted over 40 artists and Madonnari from all around the world….countries represented included Germany, Mexico, USA, Netherlands, UK, Italy, Belgium etc
This was our first time in Valkenburg and we were one of the only entrants from the UK.
To us….It’s almost like winning the street art version of the Olympic Games…….The competition and standard was incredibly high with some of the best street art I have ever seen anywhere.
They take pavement art very seriously in this part of the world…..
It just goes to show that Liverpool Artists can compete with the best in the world!
HEY! Watch out for my ‘stop-frame’ video of our creation and video diary of our time in Holland…we did love it and look forward to going back again next year 🙂
